JPHMP presents Public Health Perspectives, a podcast series targeted towards strengthening the future public health workforce. We will explore the narratives of public health care professionals and gain insight on career paths that shape the profession. In our journey, we will use JPHMP’s 21 Public Health Case Studies on Policy & Administration, which provides case studies that help students and practitioners connect with real life experiences. In this episode, Lizzie Corcoran, ASPPH Philanthropy Fellow at the de Beaumont Foundation, joins us to discuss general leadership principles as well as her journey thus far learning the intricacies of governmental leadership.

Lizzie Corcoran is the de Beaumont Foundation’s second Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) Philanthropy Fellow. Corcoran came to the Foundation after completing her Master of Public Health degree in Behavioral Science and Health Education at Saint Louis University’s College for Public Health and Social Justice. Before coming to de Beaumont, Corcoran worked in the public school system of St. Louis for three years, advocating for new discipline policies by building teacher capacity, implementing trauma-informed care, and building consensus around racial equity principles within schools. Corcoran also has experience building capacity of health departments to better prevent HIV through her internship with HealthHIV. Corcoran is excited to pursue her interests of the social determinants of health, public health policies, and building support for public health across sectors, settings, and audiences. Corcoran holds a bachelor’s degree from Saint Louis University in public health and international studies.

Camelia Singletary, MPH, received her master’s degree in public health from the University of South Carolina in 2015. Her research interests include exploring the implementation of school physical activity programs in combination with nutritional components. She is also interested in analyzing the adoption of physical activity and healthy eating skills from a social-cognitive perspective. As a public health communicator at JPHMP Direct, she hopes to create linkages between evidence-based research, public health coursework, and health certification competencies.
