Dr. Justin B. Moore Named Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice

The Journal of Public Health Management and Practice (JPHMP) is pleased to announce that Justin B. Moore, PHD, MS, FACSM, will succeed Lloyd F. Novick, MD, MPH, as Editor-in-Chief, effective January 1, 2025.

Dr. Moore is a Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Implementation Science in the Division of Public Health Sciences at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, where he also holds secondary appointments in the departments of Family & Community Medicine and Epidemiology & Prevention. He is also the Director of Dissemination, Implementation, & Continuous Quality Improvement within the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at Wake Forest University. Dr. Moore conducts community-engaged research focused on the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based strategies for the promotion of healthy behaviors in underserved populations. He also conducts epidemiological research examining the determinants of health behaviors and related comorbidities across the lifespan. His research portfolio spans chronic diseases such a hypertension, obesity, and diabetes, and interventions to prevent or treat these conditions through physical activity, healthy eating, and related health behaviors.

Serving as Associate Editor of JPHMP since 2007, Dr. Moore has previously served as Associate Editor-in-Chief for the Translational Journal of the American College of Sports Medicine and previously chaired the editorial board of the American Journal of Public Health. He is a member of the editorial boards of the journals Childhood Obesity, Obesities, Journal of Healthy Eating & Physical Activity, and the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity. As a result of his research, he and his colleagues have published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles, and he has received funding as principal investigator for his work from the National Institutes of Health, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Duke Endowment, and the de Beaumont Foundation, among others.

Dr. Lloyd F. Novick, who has guided JPHMP as Editor-in-Chief since its inception in 1995, leaves behind a remarkable legacy of innovation and leadership. Under his direction, the journal has become a cornerstone for public health practitioners, researchers, and policy makers, contributing to advancements in the field through rigorous research and practice-based solutions.

“As I take on this new role with the journal,” Dr. Moore says, “I remain committed to the mission of the journal. It is immensely important to me that we honor Dr. Novick’s legacy by continuing to position JPHMP as the preeminent source for policy- and practice-relevant research, and an outlet for practitioner-led scholarly articles that report the state of the art of applying that research to practice.”

Dr. Moore’s leadership promises to build upon JPHMP’s history as a trusted resource for public health professionals. The journal’s editorial board, staff, and readers can look forward to a continued commitment to excellence in publishing research that informs practice and policy.
