Johanzynn Gatewood received her Bachelor’s in Anthropology with a minor in Health Disparities Society from the University of Florida in 2014. After she graduated, she took a year off before pursuing her MPH to do a one-year contract with AmeriCorps where she was placed in Lancaster, California, working on a health and wellness initiative with the City of Lancaster. Her interests include health communication, the role of social media in public health, health literacy, and minority health. Currently, she is an intern at Alachua County Emergency Management where she is involved in community outreach through social media, emergency sheltering, and the development of printed/online materials. She is also an intern at the Journal of Public Health Management & Practice where is she responsible for the development and production of media products (ie, blog posts, infographics, etc) to help disseminate content of the Journal. In addition, she is one of the founding members of the Future Voices of Public Health blog in the College of Public Health and Health Professions at the University of Florida. In the future, she hopes to have a career in health communication where she can continue to work towards bridging the communication gap between health professionals and vulnerable populations. In her spare time, she is a monthly contributor to a local food media website called GainesvilleGrub and enjoys shamelessly taking pictures of her food.
