Achieving accreditation or Pathways Recognition is a transformative journey, and the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) is committed to supporting departments through every step of these processes. From assessing readiness to preparing for Reaccreditation, PHAB provides comprehensive support. Through a combination of live training sessions and on-demand resources, PHAB equips learners with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to succeed.
Live Training
PHAB offers a series of live, virtual training opportunities for departments based on where they are in the process.
- New Accreditation Coordinator Training: This training focuses on the needs of individuals new to the Accreditation Coordinator role in any step of the process. It covers:
- An overview of PHAB processes and programs
- Timelines
- The standards & measures
- Roles, responsibilities, and tips for success
- PHAB resources available for Accreditation Coordinators
- Documentation Intensive: This training covers all aspects of preparing documentation for submission. We offer two tailored options for this training based on where the learner’s department is in the process: Documentation Intensive for Initial Accreditation & Pathways, and Documentation Intensive for Reaccreditation. The trainings cover:
- Documentation timelines
- Effective use of Documentation Forms
- Submitting various types of documentation
- Case studies for hands-on learning
- Best practices, resources, and tips for success
- Initial Accreditation & Pathways Training: This four-hour training is required for health department Accreditation Coordinators in the Readiness and Training Process. It is designed to prepare learners with the knowledge, tools, and resources they will need to complete the Readiness Assessment and apply for Initial Accreditation or Pathways Recognition, including:
- An overview of PHAB processes
- A deep dive into the Readiness Assessment
- Key timelines to help plan your Readiness & Training year
- The standards & measures
- The basics of documentation collection
- Case studies for hands-on learning

- Volunteer Site Visitor/Peer Reviewer Training: Site Visitors/Peer Reviewers play an essential role in the accreditation and Pathways processes. PHAB requires all Site Visitors to attend training to ensure an understanding of the roles and responsibilities necessary for the site visit process. The training includes:
- The Site Visitor Agreement
- The review process
- How to use e-PHAB
- Conducting the Site Visit and finalizing the Site Visit Report
- The accreditation and Pathways decision
- A case study for hands-on learning

On-Demand Training and Resources
The PHAB Learning Center
The PHAB Learning Center is an online portal for on-demand training and resources available to learners based on where their department is in the accreditation or Pathways process. All users must have a Learning Center account to access the content. Creating an account is free and can be done so by self-registering here.
- Public Content: The Learning Center provides all users with access to the which includes resources for departments pursuing accreditation or Pathways. This section also features courses on tools and resources available to promote and support public health transformation. Courses include:

- Assigned Content: PHAB assigns specific content to users based on where they are in the accreditation or Pathways process. Content includes:
- “Journeys” specific to Pathways Recognition, Accreditation, and Reaccreditation contain groups of courses that provide an overview of the processes, resources, and tips for success.
- The Annual Report course provides an overview of the process and guidance for health departments preparing their Annual Report.
- Communication Toolkits offer guidance and resources for departments that have achieved Pathways Recognition or accreditation, including the PHAB Seal, sample press releases, and social media strategies.

- Amanda Marino, MA, CHES, serves as the Education Specialist at the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB), where she develops educational resources, delivers training, and provides technical assistance to health departments pursuing public health accreditation or Pathways Recognition. Before joining PHAB in 2023, Amanda served as a Health Education Specialist in prevention. She holds a MA in Wellness and Lifestyle Management from Rowan University and a BS in Public Health from Stockton University.
