Philip Musa, PhD, PE, MPH, MBA

Philip F. Musa, PhD, PE, MPH, MBA, is an Associate Professor at UAB (The University of Alabama at Birmingham). His educational and research backgrounds include Public Health, Information Systems, Operations Management, and Electrical Engineering. He has published dozens of research papers in academic journals and conference proceedings that reflect his educational teaching backgrounds. While Dr. Musa serves on a number of Editorial boards, his service on the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice has been most impactful on his most recent interest – exploring the intersections of Public Health, Information Systems, and Engineering.

In Public Health journals, Professor Musa has published research on the containment of Ebola using Principles and Practices of Emergency Operations Centers, Assessment of Readiness for Implementation of Telemedicine, Integration of “Footprints” Information Systems in Palliative Care, Demonstration of SMS-based smartphone application to improve Acute Flaccid Paralysis surveillance, etc.  

Professor Musa’s publications in Information Systems journals have appeared in the European Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Medical Systems, Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Information Technology for Development, The Communications of the Association for Computing Machinery, etc. 

Dr. Musa teaching experience are in Business, Healthcare, and Engineering disciplines. He is or has served on PhD dissertation committees, external reviews or doctoral opponent for many doctoral candidates in the US and other countries. He is on the Fulbright Specialist roster and serves on UAB’s Fulbright scholar committee.  

In addition to being a member of Public Health’s Honor Society (Delta Omega) and APHA (American Public Health Association), Dr. Musa is a senior member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), Association for Information Systems, and Project Management Institute.
