
Dr. Carlene Mayfield is the Associate Vice President of Impact Evaluation & Grants Management at Advocate Health where she leads Impact Evaluation and non-research external funding administration for the National Center for Clinical & Community Impact (CCI) within the Division of Consumer & Social Impact. In this role, Dr. Mayfield oversees enterprise strategy and operations for a cross-functional technical assistance team. Her team’s scope includes developing and implementing impact evaluation strategies, facilitating multi-sector research partnerships, and leveraging data-driven insights to measure program effectiveness and drive systemic improvements. She also manages external funding portfolio strategy, ensuring streamlined administration and alignment with enterprise priorities.
Prior to joining Advocate Health, Carlene spent over 10 years working with collaborative partners on the evaluation of clinical and community-based programming to improve health outcomes and reducing health disparities. During this time, she earned a Master’s degree in Public Health, Social and Behavioral Health from the University of Kansas Medical Center and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of South Carolina.
As both a researcher and strategic leader, Dr. Mayfield focuses on innovative evaluation strategies and technological solutions to better understand the relationship between social drivers of health and clinical health outcomes in public health and healthcare systems. She collaborates with community-based programs, healthcare practitioners, and academic partners to design data governance and evaluation plans, develop grant applications and manuscripts, and apply advanced open-source technology solutions to address complex data challenges.
