Elizabeth Van Nostrand, JD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at Pitt Public Health, an Adjunct Professor in the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Law, the Director of Pitt Public Health’s JD/MPH program, and the PI of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Training Center. She currently teaches Public Health Law and Ethics, Current Issues in Health Law, and Law in Public Health Practice (an interdisciplinary, practice-based course) in both schools. At Carnegie Mellon University, Van Nostrand is an Adjunct Instructor of Health Policy. In 2015, Van Nostrand was named a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation fellow for the promotion of public health law education, and in 2016, she was a finalist for the Craig Award for Teaching. She is also the co-author of two bench books on emergency preparedness law. Previously, she was an attorney specializing in litigation with the United States Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC, with Thompson & Knight in Dallas, Texas, and with several small law firms in New Orleans, Louisiana. She remains an active member of the Louisiana Bar. Van Nostrand has served as a reviewer for the American Journal of Public Health and the American Public Health Association, as an Expert Panelist for the Public Health Law Surveillance and Research Committee, and as an Expert Working Group Member for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Law Based Competency Committee.
