In this episode of the Editor’s Podcast, Dr. Novick speaks with Dr. Timothy Dignam at the CDC about a new Lead Poisoning Prevention supplement published this month in the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice. 

Tim Dignam, PhD, MPH works for the Centers for Disease Control in the National Center for Environmental Health in the Division of Environmental Health Science and Practice. He presently works as Division Deputy Associate Director for Science. During January-December 2018, Dr. Dignam served as Acting Chief of the Lead Poisoning Prevention Section. Prior to working at the Division level, he worked as an epidemiologist in the Child Lead Poisoning Prevention Program from 2000-2014. Dr. Dignam has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed articles on the topic of lead exposure and child health. Before CDC, he worked as an epidemiologist at ATSDR (1998-2000) and the Georgia Department of Public Health 1994-1998. Tim Dignam podcast lead

Dr. Dignam earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from University of Massachusetts, Amherst; a Master of Public Health in epidemiology from Emory University; and a Doctor of Philosophy in epidemiology from University of Alabama, Birmingham.  His dissertation topic assessed the association of prenatal blood lead exposure and hearing response among infants.  Tim Dignam podcast lead

Dr. Lloyd F. Novick

Lloyd F. Novick, MD, MPH is Professor Emeritus of the Department of Public Health at the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University. Previously, he was chair of this Department. He has served as the Commissioner of Health and Secretary for Human Services of Vermont, Director of Health Services for Arizona, and Director of the Office of Public Health for New York State. Previous academic positions include Professor and Director of the Preventive Medicine Program for SUNY Upstate Medical University, Professor and Chair of Epidemiology at the University of Albany School of Public Health, and Clinical Professor and Director of the Teaching Program in Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Vermont, College of Medicine.
